Cross-Cultural Understanding (CCU) is a compulsory subject in alf English language and literature degrees In universities in Indonesia The Indonesian government Iducation Department! guideline for this one semester, 2 credit subject states that CCU discusses the obstacles in eemmunieation between cultures end languages and how to overcome them' 'Cross-cultural' usually refers recognizing the values and behaviors of cultures which are different front one's own In this book the cultures of Indonesia and of some Inglish speaking countriess are discussed Many books on 'culture' and 'intercultural communication' provide relevant readings for this subject however, there is a need for a textbook, which fulfils four needs:

*    It is written specifically for English Department Students
*    It takes into account the life experience of these students
