Inventory and Identification FORTS IN INDONESIA

This publication contains information about 442 forts in Indonesia which was collected through site surveys, archive and literature tracing both in Indonesia and in the Netherlands, under a collaboration venture on the documentation and identification of forts in Indonesia spanning the period from 2007 to 2010.

During that time, Goverment officials, university students, members of local communities, all working together both in the field such as finding the location of undocumented forts or supplying historical data as they remember. Or those who contributed by doing measurements, taking photography, making drawings, tracing information from old reports and books, etc. Gathered all data were put together and presented in workshops and seminars.

This publication marks a milestone in understanding the great works of defense buildings constructed by past generations, and which today become a legacy for the present and future genrations. A legacy which must be sought to its potentials and its possible role in the future.
